Fight Or Flight

The body’s primitive survival response, Fight or Flight once protected us from the proverbial Saber Tooth Tiger that lurked around every corner. In modern society, this same response is commonly triggered by excessive stress. Road rage is a perfect and common example. As a former world class road-rager, I can certainly relate!

There is a long and nasty list of cumulative consequences to the mind and body if you allow yourself to slip into Fight or Flight on a regular basis. Never mind just slipping occasionally, there are some who are unconsciously trapped in this state everyday that suffer greatly.

This programming can be rewired with time and consistency. Awareness to the sometimes-subtle symptoms is critical. Learning to quiet the mind and body is the antidote. Exercise, deep breathing, meditation and time in nature are excellent tools.

Save up that adrenaline for an actual apex predator encounter…
